So long Oklahoma

Oklahoma… it’s where I grew up and I have memories on nearly every corner from Oklahoma City to Midwest City to my hometown, Jones. But there’s not much left in this old state for me anymore, which is why I moved to Milwaukee a few years ago. Today, I will say goodbye to the family, who has been so supportive and encouraging throughout this readjusting period, and go back to my newfound homeland of Wisconsin. It’s a 16-hour drive, but with all the great sports talk radio about the NCAA tourney, it will be like taking a nap.

I’m bringing my cousin along with me to Mil town. He’s a good kid and wants to attend college in Beer town, so at least I’ll have family there with me now. As I say adios to my home state, I am a bit saddened. But my job and almost all of my friends are in Milwaukee. If you’ve never been there, it’s a great city. I am looking forward to seeing Lake Michigan again. But, I’m not looking forward to seeing my mom wipe away her tears as her oldest boy leaves her arms once more. At least this time, her boy isn’t going to war. This time, he’s going to his apartment on the Lake, where a bathroom cabinet of Brut and Old Spice awaits me.

March Madness + Men= Something women will never truly understand. (And I am a basketball fan.)

I am glad life is going back to normal. Don't forget the White Rain shampoo! (Do you get to take your running buddy with you, too?)

We spoke of both being from Oklahoma before. My grandmother and several great aunts lived very near Jones. I used to go there sometimes as a child.

Hey, Smink,

I love Milwaukee, even if the elections are rigged. ( ;) ) I went there every summer for GenCon for many, many years, and the John Hawks pub on the Riverwalk was a favored hangout. Good luck with the move and the adjustment to "normal" life. :)

I didn't know you were back. I'm so glad that day finally came. I'm also glad you're getting counseling. I'm not going to say "you'll be fine," because I don't know if you will. I HOPE you will. I pray you will. And mostly, I just hope you'll be happy. I never knew you liked Brut so much. Don't remember you wearing it, but I don't think you need it to help you out. Just remember that life is a long road, whether you're trying to figure out its meaning, find love or just try and find a good piece of sushi. All of this takes time. Trust me. I still can't find any good sushi.

hey - i am currently the owner of the email address listed in 10:38 am Anonymous comment on this blog - and I keep getting spam emails sent to me - I googled the email address to see what comes up and the only thing that is listed as active is this comment on your blog and one other - so i am wondering if the spammers might be getting my email address from that? i'm wondering if you can delete the comments so hopefully i can stop getting requests from nigerian princes and whatnot.

thanks
